16 days of Activism 2021(8th december 2021)

8 December 2021 (Wednesday) Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club held a press conference on the occasion of International Women’s Violence Prevention 2021 to formulate “Sexual Harassment Prevention and Protection Act” and to ratify ILO Convention-190. Gender Platform Bangladesh is an alliance of organizations working on labor rights.Ashraf Uddin Mukut (Executive Director, Bangladesh Labor Foundation), read out a written statement on behalf of Gender Platform Bangladesh at a press conference hosted by Nazma Yasmeen (Director, Bangladesh Institute of Labor Studies-Bills), Secretariat, Gender Platform Bangladesh.

Speakers at the press conference said that women are working equally with men in the country and abroad. Bangladesh’s progress in women’s empowerment and economic development is commendable.But women are still being tortured and harassed in all cases.Speakers said that everyone, including journalists, should come forward to prevent torture and harassment in the workplace and in educational institutions.They are of the opinion that the government can play a stronger role by expanding the definition of the workplace.

Vice President of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association Adv. Seema Zahur, Nazma Akter (Executive Director of Awaaz Foundation), Md. Shahinur Rahman ( Bangladesh Consultant of Mondial FNV), Kazi Gulshan Ara Dipa ( Coordinator of Working Women, representatives of Fairware Foundation) ,researchers, lawyers and journalists were present.
